Building a useful evidence timeline
A timeline should separate events from the dates on which they were reported. Include short descriptions, source links and unresolved date differences. Keeping those fields distinct helps readers understand delays and prevents a later article from moving the original event forward in time.
A practical checklist
- Record event and publication dates separately.
- Use one event per row.
- Retain uncertainty where dates conflict.
Putting it in context
A decision made in October but posted in November can carry both dates. Neither needs to be discarded to create a tidy chronology.
Keep in mind
A timeline is only as complete as its documented entries.
