Why a score needs a method
A numerical score is only interpretable when its criteria and calculation are explained. Ask what was measured, how categories were weighted and how missing evidence was handled. Without that information, precision in the displayed number can exceed precision in the underlying research.
A practical checklist
- Find the scoring criteria.
- Check how unknown facts affect the result.
- Look for evidence supporting each major category.
Putting it in context
A score of 9.7 does not become meaningful merely because it has a decimal place. A reader still needs to know what distinguishes it from 8.7.
Keep in mind
Operator Atlas currently publishes evidence status rather than performance ratings.
