A transfer record is not an identity check
A public transfer record can describe activity associated with an address, but it does not automatically identify the legal person controlling that address. In a case file, keep transaction observations separate from claims about ownership and responsibility.
A practical checklist
- Preserve the reference privately.
- State exactly what the record displays.
- Require separate evidence for identity claims.
Putting it in context
An address appearing in a message and an address appearing in a public record may be the same string. That alone does not authenticate the person who sent the message.
Keep in mind
This guide does not provide tracing services or attribute addresses to individuals.
