Review literacy · QUICK REFERENCE
Balanced does not mean equal certainty
A review can discuss strengths, limitations and unresolved questions without giving every claim equal evidential weight. An unsupported compliment and a documented notice should be labelled differently. Balance comes from fair treatment of evidence, not from forcing a matching positive sentence beside every negative one.
A practical checklist
- Attribute unsupported assertions.
- Give documentary records their actual scope.
- Explain uncertainty consistently.
Putting it in context
An operator statement can be included alongside a regulatory record, but the reader should know who published each and what each establishes.
Keep in mind
Fair presentation does not require an artificial overall verdict when evidence is incomplete.
