Ownership changes and historical records
Historical sources should remain attached to the entity and date they originally describe. When a website reports an ownership change, create a separate event in the timeline and look for supporting documents. Rewriting the entire past under the new name makes it harder to see who a particular notice concerned.
A practical checklist
- Keep the original entity in the historical record.
- Date the reported transfer separately.
- Identify which relationships remain unconfirmed.
Putting it in context
A 2022 notice and a 2025 ownership announcement can both belong in a file. They answer different questions and should not be compressed into a single undated verdict.
Keep in mind
An announced change does not, by itself, establish its legal effect.
